Father Jean-Pierre Charron passed away on January 28, 2025, at the Hull Hospital. Born on February 28, 1954, he was the son of the late Bernard and the late Antoinette Tremblay, and the brother of Sylvie, Marc, Yves, and Gaétan.
After studying theology and earning a master’s degree in pastoral sciences at Saint-Paul University in Ottawa, he was ordained a priest on December 6, 1985, by Bishop Adolphe Proulx.
He served his ministry in several parishes of the Archdiocese of Gatineau. He first served as an intern at the parishes of Saint-Médard and Saint-Raymond, then as administrator at Saint-Pierre-Chanel and Saint-Jean-Bosco. Later, he was the moderator of the pastoral team assigned to Saint-Jean-Bosco, associate pastor at Saint-Raymond, and pastor of the parishes of Notre-Dame-du-Très-Saint-Rosaire, the Cathedral of Saint-Jean-Marie-Vianney, Saint-François-de-Sales, and Saint-Jean-de-Brébeuf, before finishing his ministry, until recently, at Saint-Alexandre and Saint-Matthieu. Additionally, he was a member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council. He had also been a member of the formation and support committee for future priests, chaplain for the Daughters of Isabella (Council 674), and the Knights of Columbus.
In the 1980s, Father Jean-Pierre took a trip to Africa, to the Democratic Republic of Congo, then called Zaire. This journey, rich in encounters and experiences, had a profound impact on him, and he often spoke of it. A kind man who was always available, he was known, among other things, for his radiant laughter.
The funeral will take place on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Saint-Joseph Cathedral. He has not departed; he has arrived!
