First bishop Msgr. Paul-Émile Charbonneau
Born in Sainte-Thérèse-de-Blainville, QC on May 4th, 1922. Ordained priest on May 31st, 1947. Elected Bishop of Hull on May 21st, 1963. After 10 years as Bishop of Hull, from 1963 to 1973, Pope Paul VI accepted his resignation due to health issues. After a brief period of rest, engaged himself in the continued training of priests, founding the Pierrefonds ongoing training center for Francophone priests in Canada. Died on May 20th, 2014 in Montreal.
Second bishop Msgr. Adolphe Proulx
Born in Hanmer, ON, on December 12th, 1927. Ordained priest for the diocese of Sault-Ste-Marie from 1954 to 1958. Elected Bishop Auxiliary of Sault-Ste-Marie on February 24th, 1965. Remained at this position until April 1967, when he was named Bishop of Alexandria, in Ontario. Named Bishop of the Church of Gatineau-Hull on March 30th, 1974, he died suddenly on July 22nd, 1987 while still in office.
Our emeritus Bishop, the Most Rev. Roger Ébacher, third bishop and first archibishop
Born in Amos, QC on October 6th, 1936, he was ordained priest on May 27th, 1961. Elected Bishop of Hauterive on June 30th, 1979, he was ordained Bishop of the Baie-Comeau diocese, in the Saint-Jean-Eudes Cathedral, by Msgr. Gilles Ouellet on July 31st, 1979, first day of his pastoral ministry.
He was named Bishop of Gatineau on April 6th, 1988, and inaugurated this pastoral ministry in the Saint-Jean-Marie-Vianney Cathedral on May 6th, 1988. He was named Metropolitan Archbishop of Gatineau on October 31st, 1990. Msgr. Ébacher’s social and community involvement was officially recognized by the Université du Québec à Hull who, for this reason, awarded him a Doctorate honoris causa in 1996. Msgr. Roger Ébacher was in office as Bishop of Gatineau for 23 years, retiring in 2011.
