Father Jacques Carrière

It is with deep respect and in the peace of the Lord that we announce the passing of Father Jacques Carrière, who left this world on April 17, 2025, at 6:50 a.m. at the Foyer du Bonheur.

Born May 9, 1928, in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, he was the son of the late Raoul Carrière and the late Marie-Laure Bélanger. He was the brother of the late Jeannine, Réjean, the late Richard, the late Jean-Guy, Jean-Noël, the late Maurice, Lili-Anne, Claire and André, along with many extended family members, friends, and parishioners who will remember him fondly.

Ordained to the priesthood on June 19, 1955, by Most Reverend Marie-Joseph Lemieux, O.P., Father Carrière faithfully served the people of God for several decades in the Archdiocese of Gatineau. His pastoral service included appointments at Saint-François-de-Sales (Gatineau), Saint-Raymond-de-Pennafort (Hull), Saint-Fidèle (Fassett), Saint-Médard (Aylmer), and Saint-Grégoire-de-Nazianze (Buckingham). He also served as a chaplain for various organizations, always bringing comfort and spiritual guidance with humility and compassion.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Notre-Dame-de-la-Guadeloupe Church (30 Saint-Onge Street, Gatineau, Quebec, J8Y 5T6), presided over by Bishop Paul-André Durocher.

Let us pray that the Lord, full of mercy and love, welcomes His servant Jacques into the light and peace of His eternal Kingdom.
