Press Release of the Assembly of Quebec Catholic Bishops

Following the broadcast of the program « Enquête»

The Assembly of Quebec Catholic Bishops reiterates its indignation and shame amidst the terrible tragedy of abuse of minors by members of the clergy and religious communities. The Bishops stand firmly for truth and call for justice to be served.

Quebec churches stand ready to denounce abusers, work with the police and the courts as well as take care of the victims - for the sake of truth, justice and healing.

On October 16th and 17th, the Assembly brought together Diocesan Officials in charge of treatment and prevention of abuse, to discuss the rapid implementation of recommendations made by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The church wants to ensure that it will never be implicated in such despicable acts that hurt children and their loved ones for a lifetime.

The Assembly cannot comment on the allegations made yesterday evening on CBC's program “Enquête”, as the investigation is still ongoing.

However, it is clear that the abuse of children and vulnerable people is a repulsive crime and an outrageous sin.

The Assembly reiterates its call to report any abuse to the police and to inform the competent authorities.
